Applications of Resistance Brazing
Brazing is the process of joining one metal to another metal using a low temperature interface metal, called a brazing alloy, without melting the two primary metals. Brazing permits the joining of metals with very disparate melting temperatures, thermal loads, and crystalline structures. Common brazing examples include relay contacts, machine tool bits, and radiator assemblies. Brazing alloys typically melt at 400ºC or higher. Note:The parts to be joined do not melt, instead the solder/braze materials melt to effect a metallurgical bond. A variety of methods can be used at the joint interface to melt the solder/braze materials including resistance, infra-red, laser, and thermal conduction. Resistance Brazing Resistance brazing is ideal for joining small electronic or electro-mechanical metal components that are thermally conductive, electrically conductive, thermally imbalanced, and cannot tolerate heat soaking for extended periods at the brazing temperature. Resistance brazing involves passing a controlled electric current through one or more of the primary metals and possibly the brazing alloy.
Resistance Brazing Process:
The brazing current must pass through at least one of the primary metals for the resistance brazing process to work. In some cases, the heat generated from one primary metal is sufficient to displace any insulation on the second primary metal, thus allowing the brazing alloy to wet to the both primary metals. The workpieces are heated locally, and the filler metal that is preplaced between the workpieces is melted by the heat generated from resistance to the flow of electric current through the electrodes and the work. Resistance Welding Technology is employed to heat/anneal the job or braze two parts or joints where lesser heat is required at a longer time period. With resistance brazing, a brazing solder (possibly including the soldering flux) is used to ensure that the electrical resistance is the greatest at the solder point. This makes it possible to weld smaller components to metal sheets, which have a high degree of thermal conductivity. Firmly bonded joints are created without any noteworthy structural transformation. The resistance brazing is targeted so that neighboring areas to the solder point are only subjected to very slight thermal influence and any damage to materials is ruled out as far as possible. The controller is used for controlling parameter like Time, Heat, Pressure and feed settings. These are generally custom-built equipment with specially designed transformers for higher duty cycles. Electro-Brazing, Cross Wire Welding, Sheet Metal- 2-ply or Multi-ply, Mark-less Welding, Resistance Heating and Soldering. Confirmation of weldability of other materials can be provided on request.
